Those smart ideas in addition worked as the easy way to recognize that other people have a similar desire the same as my own to know much more when it comes to this condition.
I came across your blog while exploring getglue, and spotted the article on Web 2.0. I just attended a conference in Shanghai on Web 2.0 in the classroom.

I was interested in your concerns from the computer and tech world point of view. Although a literature teacher, I went because of concerns many teachers have about the impact of Web 2.0 in the classroom, if people forget it is just a tool and that it all still has to happen in the classroom.

I would have enjoyed hearing you give the talk.

Re: The Evolving Nature of Technology Adoption

Good stuff Fraser. Is there a video of you talk somewhere?

I think finding users / adopters is a matter of knowing who exactly your customers are. If the adopters you are targeting are heavy web users, well these days that is a pretty big, undefined group. Four years ago it wasn't.

Marketing to everyone is difficult. Building stuff that services a particular audience is more efficient and fruitful.

Re: Summer in NYC

Wow - I just went to Charlie's site and saw the picture. Wow. There are a lot of screw-shaped objects in the xray... that can't be a good thing.
Congrats on the job with the DA. Does that make you a Rachel-like character from Dark Knight?

For someone interested in law I'd imagine it would be harder to get better experience. Is it a full time, long-term thing?
I'm so happy to start my day off reading such a positive post (and thinking of Metallica.)
Quick Update: Broke my ankle a month ago, big surgery (see Charlie's post last week for the visual), now back at work, which i LOVE. Maybe I told you, I ended up at the Manhattan DA's office, being a paralegal, and having tons of fun doing it. Though it's hard and slightly boring here while I'm on crutches. I'm looking ahead to a long rehab process, so I'm thinking Dodgeball 2.0 '09 is what I'll be gearing up for.
Miss seeing you on the court every week!
Catch you later.

What seems to be the limiting problem is that wisdom, knowledge, understanding, etc. are trying to be given solid definitions. This is good and all and it helps us grasp the meaning and function of each. However, wisdom should be considered an attainable perspective (which is in the form of comprehension and knowing) that is informed infinitely by prudence, but more importantly, with wisdom, one is able to find a balance in life. This ubiquitous balance is observed in all situations at all times by a wise person. So, by recognizing that balance is necessary even in the role of learning and memorizing data, one can hope to learn that life is all about a healthy and equal indulgence in all things as long as said indulgence is informed through proper and right judgment.

Re: TechCocktail Conference in Chicago

Congrats and Good luck, Fraser.

One good thing about getting older is the lack of peer pressure to conform to youthful tastes (not that I ever did really).

There is a very vibrant music scene in the UK though, and I've been featuring many British Indie artists on my net radio station at http://nabradio.us. Who woulda thunk it. :) @McLarty Actually I am a Wunderloo alumni (waaaay back 2 decades ago) and I do follow the great things that are happening there (my retirement account thanks you RIM!). I think that it is in part the support that Communitech provides that enables / attracts entrepreneurs in the area. Prior successes facilitate future successes. It is the reason that the group I work with are committed to nurturing innovated ideas in our region. We feel it will lead to a stronger, more fertile breeding ground for additional new ideas. This area could be a recognized "team" in the "big leagues" @Fraser I'd offer that entrepreneurial spirit is taking an idea and growing it to say $20M revenue, not the process of scaling it beyond. Being bought should be an entrepreneur's goal... a large company is likely to crush that spirit.

Re: The Importance of Hope (or, Barack Obama on Entrepreneurship)

I'm proud to be Canadian. I wear my love for Hamilton on my sleeve. I'm thrilled with the changes that are occurring in the city, the province, and the country that will create real impact on entrepreneurship for years to come. That's future tense though. We're not there yet. But we're on the right path. Growing a company with $20M revenue is tough. Growing from $20 - $100 is even more difficult. But the hardest is to continue to grow beyond $100M / year in revenue. It will be interesting to watch Sandvine over the coming year - they're at a difficult junction for any company. And a junction, that unfortunately, Canadian companies have never been good at transcending. For all it's entrepreneurial spirit Waterloo has not matched the output of other areas. Again, I believe this will change thanks to the foundation and support networks that many have built in the region.
